Sporting events are often a spectacle, especially when stars like Katy Perry take the stage. At the grand finale of the Australian Football League (AFL), Perry transformed the event into a mini-concert held at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, captivating an audience of 100,000 with a dazzling 20-minute performance.
“This will be a grand spectacle: 100,000 people singing my songs at the top of their lungs,” Perry said during a press conference ahead of the event.
And she was right. The artist delivered a medley of her biggest hits, opening with Roar. To the roar of the crowd, she made a dramatic entrance onto the field aboard a vehicle resembling a spaceship, embracing the show’s futuristic theme.
As the second track began, Perry descended from her “spacecraft” to join her dance crew. Performing Dark Horse, she moved to a spiral-shaped stage where the full production unfolded. There, Perry sang GORGEOUS and LIFETIMES from her latest album. The setlist also included Woman’s World, California Gurls, and Teenage Dream, culminating with a powerful rendition of Fairwork.
“Thank you, AFL, for having me. God bless you all. This has been Katy Perry,” she said before her final number.
The surprises didn’t end there: Perry performed I Kissed A Girl as a duet with Tina Arena, and together they also covered the song Chains, delivering a memorable moment that had the crowd on their feet.
